How do you measure product weight?

At Cash For Gold RVA, we calculate the value of gold and other precious metals using pennyweight (dwt) — a standard jeweler’s measurement for precious metals. It’s slightly heavier than a gram (1 pennyweight = 1.555 grams) and ensures precise, fair pricing for every transaction.

Why is my jewelry worth less than what I originally paid for it?

Jewelry bought at a retail store often includes a significant markup — up to 1,000% — to cover design, branding, marketing, and overhead costs. When selling to a precious metal buyer or pawn shop, that retail markup doesn’t apply. We base our offers strictly on the current market (spot) price of the gold, silver, or platinum content, along with weight and purity. This ensures you’re paid fairly for the true intrinsic metal value of your item, not inflated retail pricing.
